Campaign Story
About the project
The community CRY works with in Latur faces various issues such as socio-economic discrimination and lack of economic opportunities. To reduce financial burden from families, many children drop out of school to work while girls are forced into child marriage.
Making a difference
CRY America Project KMAGVS works directly with the community to change behaviors and attitudes towards child marriage, child labor and the importance of education. The project coordinates with the authorities, local bodies and institutions to ensure children are able to go to school. The project conducts awareness sessions to disseminate information regarding the prevention of child marriage, child labor and child trafficking. Home visits and personal counseling were organized for children appearing in board examinations.

Relentless efforts saved Rani from Child Marriage
Rani, a 16-year old girl from a low-income family in Latur, helps her parents to earn a living by working in agriculture fields. She completed her 10th in 2021, and after that, her family decided to get her married without her consent.
Rani is part of an adolescent group and shared her information about child marriage with the Anganwadi Worker. With the help of the project staff, the Anganwadi worker counseled Rani’s family and explained the ill effects of early marriage.
Rani’s mother remained adamant and kept telling the team that they didn’t have money to support her education and believed she was weak in her studies.
The Anganwadi worker and Project team member worked extensively at counselling her parents. At last her parents gave up on the relentless effort and got her admitted to class 11th in Shivaji Nagar School in Bittergaon this year.
